Irony Alert: AP Relies on Racial Sterotype While Crying Racism. Plus, Dem Dismisses Palin as “Fluffy Bunny.” Update: Palin Says the AP Is Wrong.
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- October 5, 2008 at 11:40 pm | In 2008 Election | No CommentsIt’s no longer surprising when the media rushes out to defend Barack Obama from any attack by crying racism. The latest installment of defensive journalism comes from AP writer Douglass K. Daniel who wants his readers to believe Sarah Palin’s salvo against Obama for his ties to a domestic terrorist “carried a racially tinged subtext.”
Why? According to Daniel:
In a post-Sept. 11 America, terrorists are envisioned as dark-skinned radical Muslims, not the homegrown anarchists of Ayers’ day 40 years ago. With Obama a relative unknown when he began his campaign, the Internet hummed with false e-mails about ties to radical Islam of a foreign-born candidate.
First off, Daniel wants us to ignore the fact that Palin called Ayers a “domestic terrorist.” When people talk about domestic terrorists they’re referring to Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber and Eric Rudolph, not “dark-skinned radical Muslims.” But Daniel is so desperate to defend Obama and slime Palin that he has to ignore this, drop the word “domestic” and rely on the stereotype that all terrorists are Muslims to argue that Palin was trying to tie Obama to radical Islam. Prior to this article, of course, the left argued that terrorism was a multi-cultural, multi-racial occupation. But now that it serves their purpose “terrorist” automatically means radical Muslim.
So, never mind that Bill Ayers was a domestic terrorist and never mind that he hosted Barack Obama’s political debutante ball. Never mind that he and Obama worked together on a the CAC, funding radical education programs that promoted a leftist worldview including a grant to a group that suggested teaching kids to celebrate Juneteenth instead of the Fourth of July. Never mind that Bill Ayers admits to bombing the U.S. Capitol building and referred to himself as “guilty as hell, free as a bird.” Never mind that not only does Ayers not regret his terrorist acts, but wishes he did more. Never mind that Ayers’s bombs killed people. Never mind that he preaches hate against America and was photographed stepping on the American flag. Never mind any of that. To talk about it is racist because… well because Daniel wants Obama to win and it’s the only way he can defend him.
But the irony in this article didn’t stop there. While Daniel attacked Palin for what he perceived to be bigotry, he included this quote:
“It’s a giant changing of the subject,” said Jenny Backus, a Democratic strategist. “The problem is the messenger. If you want to start throwing fire bombs, you don’t send out the fluffy bunny to do it. I think people don’t take Sarah Palin seriously.”
One might say that comment was “tinged” with sexism, but Daniel didn’t seem to mind. Why would he? His agenda was to defend Obama by tearing Palin down. It’s probably why the quote was included.
Update: Palin: “The Associated Press is wrong.” Nice! The press is trying to pressure her to back off from the comments about Ayers and she just hammered them home ever harder. The mainstream media worked so hard to portray her as a bimbo. Methinks they’re going to be regretting it.
