A Test of Obama’s Leadership

When the blogosphere and media began a feeding frenzy on Governor Palin’s family, Senator Obama, to his credit, called for it to stop.

But, despite the Senator’s plea, nothing has changed. The filthy furor rages on and journalistic standards keep sinking lower — they’re pretty much buried in the dirt at the point.

Obama has built his candidacy around the premise that he is going to change the tone in Washington. This is a good test. All this garbage is being pushed by Obama supporters and his cheerleaders in the press. Can he inspire — just his own followers, mind you — can he inspire them to change the tone of their political discourse? Based on the results: no. He’s failing and failing miserably. There is no reason to believe that Obama and the Democrat party he leads will change anything in Washington.

It’s also worth nothing that when John McCain wanted his supporters to stop taking what he thought were cheap shots at Obama, they stopped. Although in all fairness, he had help. In those instances, the press wasn’t as eager to dig.
