Embarassing Example of Media Praise for Obama II
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- August 28, 2008 at 2:17 pm | In 2008 Election | 2 CommentsTime tries to make the case that Obama is taking a large risk tonight by delivering a speech to his most ardent fans. Of course, Time (and most of the media) is simply trying to artificially raise the stakes so they can later write that Obama rose to the challenge. (Wait for it…because you know it’s coming). Anyway, in laying the ground work for Obama, Time fawned over him with this rather laughable passage:
But if the event has turned out to involve big risks, well, Obama likes big risks. This is a man who, with the cameras rolling in Afghanistan, elected to fire a basketball from 3-point range rather than move in for a layup. Who chose as his running mate Senator Joseph Biden, a verbal thrill ride who might say anything at any moment and very frequently does. Who — and this is the biggie — decided with just a couple of years in the Senate under his belt to take on the Clinton machine in a battle for control of the Democratic Party. What’s one more gamble?
Taking into account this pathetic list of examples of his courage, who’s really taking the gamble here, Obama or the people he’s asking to vote for him?
As a side note, it’s worth our considering: if the Obama camp is stressed out over an acceptance speech, how exactly are they going to handle things when a would-be President Obama has to decide whether or not to send troops to Georgia to counter Russian advances?
