NY Times Reports Old News on Party Affiliation

Today’s NY Times tells us that there are more registered Democrats and less registered Republicans. Of course, this is something we’ve known since the primaries — in fact, as the article notes, this has been the case for years. The Times doesn’t cite where or from when it got its figures (a sign of questionable journalistic integrity) so there’s no reason to believe they’re telling us anything new here. In fact, to the contrary the article ignores the fact that this trend is showing signs of abating.

However, the larger point (which the article does make) is that the Democrats have managed to make these gains by moving to the right. Now that the Dems are in power and Pelosi & Reid are governing from the far left, we’ll see if these gains hold for very long.
