Senator Boxer’s Energy Plan: Sue ‘Em
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 19, 2008 at 3:44 pm | In No, Seriously |California Senator Barbara Boxer says she has the answer for high gas prices… sue. Sue OPEC, sue the oil companies, sue speculators. It’s no surprise that someone like Boxer is relying on the courts to lower gas prices. It’s how the Dems try to enact all their policies. Add that to the Democrat’s other proposals and we have a tax and sue approach to energy “independence.” As soon as they invent a car that runs on tax forms and legal briefs, we’ll be in business.
Boxer goes on to say that we have to get off foreign oil because the Saudi’s “won’t give it us.” But she doesn’t want to drill for our own oil because that would hurt the tourism industry those areas. Apparently, Ms. Boxer thinks tourism thrives on expensive oil. Of course, the airline and cruise companies see it differently.
She points out that drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf wouldn’t impact prices for 12 years. The Democrats said something very similar 8 years ago during the 2000 election. Look where we are today.
The left loves alt energy, but the high prices of corn is squeezing ethanol producers to the point where they’re putting plans to build refineries on hold. The left says wind farms are part of the answer (despite the fact that they kill eagles) but they don’t want to actually build them any anywhere. Just ask Ted Kennedy. In fact, the Dems suffer from a national version of NIMBY. We shouldn’t have to drill for oil in our territory, sue the OPEC nations to drill more in theirs.
She bewails the oil company profits, but since corporate taxes are based on a percentage, the more Exxon makes, the more the government takes. Talk about windfall profits. Uncle Sam’s been raking it in. Now they want more! Who’s really greedy, here?
Boxer ends by saying we need a change. She’s right about that. A good start would be to vote dolts like her out of office so we can get some people in Congress interested in working on real solutions.

[…] Try and reconcile this with their other talking point, that there are plenty of ”unused leases” where the oil companies could drill for oil but for some reason, they just don’t want to. If Democrats like Boxer are to be believed, rather than drill in the U.S., oil companies prefer to drill in places like Nigeria amidst frequent militant violence a greedy government trying to seize more of their profits (okay, the last points isn’t too different from our Democrat congress).
