Obama Promotes Gun Violence?
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 14, 2008 at 12:40 pm | In 2008 Election |At a recent event, while talking about how the campaign against John McCain was going to get rough, Senator Obama said: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”
The hilarious irony about this comment (besides the fact that he’s in favor of gun bans — or at least his aides who fill out his forms for him are) is the fact that he said it immediately after claiming the McCain camp was going to try to portray him as a “scary guy.” Senator… when you’re talking about brining guns to brawls, you do kind off come off as scary. (And what “brawl”? The one townhall debate you agreed to?)
Sure, it was a metaphor and a movie reference, but still, was it appropriate for a Presidential candidate to be talking about using guns to beat his opponents? Isn’t this the same kind of “tough talk” for which the left demonized President Bush? If McCain had said it, the commentariat would be parsing the words for any hidden meaning about race (innner-city gun violence) or assassination. Please, Mr. Obama, please stop glorifying guns. Do it for the children.
