More Carter-isms from McCain
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- January 16, 2008 at 1:38 pm | In 2008 Election |According to WaPo, here’s what John McCain has to say about how we should respond to the challenges of a global economy:
“[The] global economy is here to stay, and it is, by its nature, constantly changing. To compete more successfully in it, we must better prepare American workers and students to seize its opportunities.”
No, Senator, it’s not the American people who are ill-prepared to compete in this new environment. It’s our government. Our companies are over-taxed and over regulated.
In addition, the job market has become a lot more fluid. People don’t stay with the same company for their entire careers anymore. So we need to move away from employer-based healthcare and towards individually-owned and portable health insurance. Not only does that help empower the worker, but it also gets those costs off of the employer’s balance sheet. A more effecient, market-based Social Security program would also help workers because the higher returns would reduce the need to invest in 401Ks and IRAs.
If you don’t have the solutions, or don’t support the ones that are out there, that’s your right. But don’t pass the buck onto us.
