Do the Democrats Really Want to Play that Game?

by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 9, 2006 at 11:31 pm | In No, Seriously |

Apparently Democrats are just now realizing that Ann Coulter has a razor sharp tongue. In response to her comments about “the Jersey girls,” Dems have adopted a nonsensical party line. They’re demanding Republicans denounce Coulter. It’s an odd stance considering Coulter doesn’t hold any position in the Republican party. She’s a writer for cryin’ out loud.

True, Democrats caught heat over comments made by Whoopi Goldberg, but that was at a fundraiser for John Kerry, so the criticism was fitting. I don’t remember Republicans standing on the floor of the House and demanding Democrats denounce the Dixie Chicks or Linda Rondstadt.

The stance is also disingenuous given that many conservative bloggers had already lashed out against Coulter.

But the real question is why on Earth would the Democrats want to play this game? Think of all the loons they’d have to denounce. The hate-filled diatribes on DailyKos alone could keep them tied-up until election day. And the Kossacks actually endorse and fundraise for Democratic candidates. A word of advice to Dems: this is a stupid move and a losing battle.

  1. Worrying about Democrat non-response to the Dixie Chicks is small potatoes for the Dems compared to some of their other non-responses: Ward Churchill, Michael Moore (who’s been embraced, not shunned by Dem leaders)and Noam Chomsky for starters. If Dems want to play this game, the first question to ask each Dem leader after he or she holds Republicans accountable for Coulter’s book should be:”Does this mean that you agree with (insert leftist name) when he/she attacked Republicans with the following statement (insert radical lib over the top statement here)? Your silence meeans that you agree.

Good point. The list is so long… What in the world were they thinking taking that stance?
