As Long As We’re Pointing Out Hijacked Legacies, What About This Whopper

It takes a lot of Gaul for liberal to accuse Republicans of hijacking a legacy.  The DNC actually claims that their party was founded by Thomas Jefferson, which is a boldface lie. In Jefferson’s day the word “democrat” was actually a pejoritive.

Why would the DNC make such a claim? Well, for starters because the Democratic Party was the pro-slavery party. They’d rather not get into that.

Jefferson’s party was actually called the Republican Party—although it was not the same party as today’s Republicans who claim Lincoln as their father. However the name was chosen as an homage to Jefferson’s party and a promised return to his philosophy.

The Democratic Party, originally called the Democratic Republicans, was founded by Andrew Jackson as a protest against what they saw as the illegitimate election of John Quincy Adams. 

Democrats rationalize the revisionist history by claiming Democrats can “trace their roots” to Jefferson’s party. So, lefties simply revised history and started calling Jefferson’s party “Democratic Republicans” to make sure no one confused his party with today’s Republicans, with whom they claim Jefferson had nothing in common.

Really?! Jefferson…the man who opposed a strong federal government, the man who opposed a federal bank is the philosphical progenitor of social security and a national healthcare system? Those would be fighting words to Jefferson.

Dems claim they are the party of Jefferson because they both champion the common man. But Jefferson believed the common man was worthy of self-governence and didn’t need to be ruled by elites who claimed to know better. To Democrats the common man is someone who can’t take care of himself and needs to be shackled to federal handouts (in return for votes, of couse.) The difference between Jefferson and today’s Demcorats could not be more stark. They’d be more accurate to call themselves the party of Marx.
