WaPo: 500 Equals 0
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 29, 2006 at 1:05 am | In No, Seriously | 2 CommentsThis is exactly what Senator Santorum was talking about when he said:
“The idea that, as my colleagues have repeatedly said in this debate on the other side of the aisle, that there are no weapons of mass destruction is in fact false. We have found over 500 weapons of mass destruction and in fact have found that there are additional chemical weapons still in the country.”
From today’s WaPo:
Sharpening his rhetoric as the midterm congressional campaign season accelerates, Bush offered a robust defense of his decision to invade Iraq even though, ultimately, no weapons of mass destruction were found, and drew standing ovations for his attacks on those who question his leadership of the war or the fight against terrorists.
But WaPo shouldn’t be accused of inaccurate or biased reporting. Sometimes a lie just flows better.
Now, just for fun, let’s revisit what Colin Powell said in his presentation to the U.N.
Second, as with biological weapons, Saddam Hussein has never accounted for vast amounts of chemical weaponry: 550 artillery shells with mustard, 30,000 empty munitions and enough precursors to increase his stockpile to as much as 500 tons of chemical agents.
Yet now we’re told these were not the weapons we were concerned about. We’re also told they’re too old to matter because they pre-date the Gulf War. Powell went on to say:
If we consider just one category of missing weaponry — 6,500 bombs from the Iran-Iraq war — UNMOVIC says the amount of chemical agent in them would be in the order of 1,000 tons. These quantities of chemical weapons are now unaccounted for.
I’m pretty sure the Iran-Iraq war pre-dated the Gulf War so the “old” argument doesn’t seem to hold water. And as Santorum went on to say… there are still chemical weapons that are unaccounted for. Maybe that’s why Bush received the standing ovations.
Spolitics.com Presents… The Promo the Democrats Should Run
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 26, 2006 at 4:21 am | In No, Seriously | No CommentsThe Promo the Democrats Should Run: “We Are the Democrats!”
Now that we’re heading into the campaign season, we’re bound to see a bunch of leftist promos (in fact, we’ve already seen a handful for the primaries and YearlyKos).
But questions still remain. How will the Democrats implement the Murtha Doctrine? Where do they stand on Iraq? What’s their plan for the War on Terror? Since the Democrats seem to be having such a difficult time getting their message together, we here at Spolitics.com figured we’d give them a hand. So we put together the promo the Democrats should run in order to let voters know where they stand. View it at Spolitics.com.
WARNING: there is some graphic material.
Update: For more on the issues parodied in the promo see: Michelle Malkin, Hot Air [and video here] and at Expose the Left, Bush’s reaction and Tony Snow’s comments. And Sweetness & Light has this blast from the past.
Saddam’s Hunger Strike & Medical Care (Bumped)
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- June 24, 2006 at 12:25 am | In No, Seriously | No CommentsSaddam Hussein has been on a hunger strike since… well, since lunch:
“Saddam Hussein refused his midday meal today,” [a U.S. military spokesman] told Reuters. “Despite their refusal to eat their meals, they are in good health and receiving appropriate medical care.”
According to our sources, the “appropriate medical care” for skipping lunch is a late afternoon snack. However, if that option is unavailable, doctors can resort to treating the ailment with a nice nap. There’s still no word on whether or not Saddam skipped dinner. If he did, his condition will be elevated from “sort of, kind of hungry” to full-blown hunger.
Update:
Saddam avoided worsening his medical condition by ending his hunger strike in time for dinner. From Reuters:
Saddam Hussein ended a brief hunger strike after missing just one meal in his U.S.-run prison, a U.S. military spokesman said on Friday.
According to our sources, Saddam resumed his hunger strike between dinner and breakfast the next morning.
