Why at Least 17% of Arizonans Should Not Vote for McCain

by Heywood U. Reedmore -- May 29, 2006 at 9:41 pm | In No, Seriously | No Comments

According to the New York Times, 17% of John McCain’s adult constituents has had their identity stolen in the past five years. That’s roughly twice the national rate.

The article also notes that nearly half the illegal immigrants who enter the US come through Arizona, “creating a market for fraudulent Social Security numbers and driver’s licenses.”

The Times states that identity theft costs the economy $48 billion a year. Yet, McCain suggests that it’s racist to punish identity theft when it’s in pursuit of working in the US illegally. The only action he can fathom is rewarding the crime with tax credits. 17% of his Arizona voters have a pretty good reason to be upset with that position. They might want to remind him who he is supposed to be representing the next chance they get. In fact, I wonder if McCain would be singing the same tune if he had to defend his seat this year when the people he truly is representing cannot vote…yet.
