Protesters Oppose Plan to Put More Ushers at Movie
Theater Exits
by Lefty Paige

LOS ANGELES
. - Protests erupted in Los Angeles, California after
several movie theater companies announced plans to staff more ushers
at the exits to reduce the amount of undocumented movie goers that
are sneaking into the theaters.

    The Rights of the
    Undocumented
    It’s just one ripple in
    a wave of new
    organizations that are
    taking shape to
    protect the rights of
    the undocumented.

    “There is an
    unhealthy over-
    emphasis on
    documentation in this
country that adversely effects the poorest Americans,” says the leader
of the Undocumented Movie-goers Union (UMU) who asked not to be
named because he was out past curfew. “These movie theaters hunt us
down and throw us out and why?  Because we don’t have a ticket.
Well I say Americans shouldn’t need a ticket!”

According to UMU, every year millions of Americans are kept from
entering movie theaters for lack of the proper documentation, most of
whom are poor and cannot afford the fees to acquire the proper
documents.

Unclaimed Millions
In an effort to broaden the appeal of the movement and strengthen
its base, UMU has allied themselves with the newly formed
Alliance for Undocumented Bankers, a group dedicated to helping
people who have money deposited in banks -- but do not have the
documentation to prove it -- withdraw their money.

“I have two million dollars in an account that I can’t withdraw just
because I don’t have any documentation on the account,” said one
member of the Alliance for Undocumented Bankers. “That’s
unfair.”

“I have two million dollars in undocumented account, too,” said
another man.

“Me too!” said another.

According to a study by Spolitics.com, undocumented bankers
have over $30 trillion dollars in undocumented accounts.

Documents Are Unfair to the Poor
“Many of these undocumented bakers are amongst the poorest
Americans who could really use the money,” said house minority
leader Nancy Pelosi. “It’s mean-spirited to punish these people just
because they don’t have the proper documents to withdraw their
money.  Do you know how difficult and how long it takes to save
two million dollars? Are we going to deprive people of the
opportunities that come with that money just because they don't
have a piece of paper.”

Coalition of the Undocumented
The two groups are also in talks with the Undocumented Music
Owners and the Undocumented Voters to form a larger "Coalition
of the Undocumented." If the four groups are able to form an
alliance, it would make them one of the largest special interest
groups in the nation.

"We're putting up too many borders in this country," said Pelosi,
"when what we need to be doing is building bridges. Building
bridges to bank accounts, movie theaters and especially voting
booths, regardless of whether or not people have the right
documents."  Pelosi paused a moment and then continued, "When
it comes to the spirit and dedication of a party to try and recruit
future voters by ignoring the law, documentation is no match.
