Kerry Criticizes Putin of Undoing Democracy
in Russia
By Lefty Paige

John Kerry finally addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s
proposed governmental reforms today, saying the move
threatened to be “a fatal blow to democracy in Russia.”

“I believe,” Kerry continued, “that in a true democracy, anybody
should be able to run for office and the people must have the
right to go to the polls and cast their vote for a person they truly
support.  I don't know what you call it when the party bosses
controlling the Kremlin rob the Russian people of the choice to
vote for real candidates -- not party stooges.  I don't know what
you call it when those in power smother competition in an
attempt to keep their stranglehold on the government...but I sure
don't call that democracy.”

Kerry’s comments came outside the state courthouse in
Michigan where his campaign’s attorneys had just filed a lawsuit
to keep Ralph Nader off the ballot in the battleground state.

The Kerry camp has filed a number of lawsuits against Nader,
including one alleging identity theft and another filed with The
Hague in the Netherlands that charges Mr. Nader with
international espionage.  The campaign has also made a formal
complaint with the Dean of Antioch College in Ohio, accusing
Mr. Nader of sexually harassing freshman college students.

“These lawsuits have nothing to do with the upcoming election,”
a Kerry campaign advisor told Spolitics.  “This has to do with
whether or not Mr. Nader is using his global connections to
engage in espionage throughout the world, and then retuning to
the United States and harassing our nation’s brightest young
women.  If Mr. Nader has to sit out this election until these very
serious charges are cleared up, so be it.”
