Kerry Campaign Adopts New Slogan, "John
Kerry: Fair and Balanced"
By Lefty Paige

In an attempt to change the perception fostered by the Bush
campaign that John Kerry is a flip-flopper who will take
positions on both sides of an issue, the Democratic challenger
has adopted a new campaign slogan: “John Kerry: Fair and
Balanced.”

“It’s a smart move,” said one Democratic pollster.  “We’re
heading into the debates and Kerry needs a way to explain all
his various positions.  Let’s face it, that ‘nuance’ excuse wasn’
t cutting it.  This wraps them all up in a nice, easy slogan.”

“John Kerry is not a flip-flopper,” explained one high-level
campaign advisor in an interview with Spolitics.  “He only
carries that label because of the billions of dollars spent by the
Republican attack machine.”

The Kerry advisor disagreed that his candidate has been
inconsistent.  “Yes, you've heard the senator speak in defense
of the war in Iraq and against it.  In defense of the Patriot act
and against it.  In favor of No Child Left Behind and against it.
But those are not flip-flops and I don’t believe voters think they
are either.  Voters know that John Kerry is the only candidate
with enough integrity to give equal time to opposite positions on
today’s most important issues.  You won’t get that from
George Bush.  George Bush is only going to give you one
position.  John Kerry is the fair and balanced candidate in this
race.”

Despite the Democrats' enthusiasm for their new slogan, it’s
still unclear whether or not it will resonate with swing voters.
But it certainly seems to be creating a buzz amongst the party
faithful.

“I like the slogan,” said one long-time Kerry supporter at a rally
in Flint, Michigan.  “It shows we’re the big tent party and you
don’t necessarily have to believe in anything specific to be a
Democrat.”
