Air America Listener Sues Network
By Easton Weston
Sam Feely, a junior high school teacher, has filed a lawsuit against
the liberal talk radio network, Air America, for reckless
endangerment. According to the lawsuit, Mr. Feely was listening
to the O’Franken Factor while driving home from work when he
fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a tree.
“I like Mr. O’Franken’s show,” said Feely in an exclusive
interview with Spolitics, “but this is the second time this has
happened to me. My truck is totaled. Somebody’s got to pay for
it.”
According to the attorney who filed the claim, he believes he can
attract enough plaintiffs to qualify for class action status. “From
what we’re hearing, this is happening to a lot of folks. Something
has to be done to put an end to this menace.”
“I took all the necessary precautions,” said Feely who insists the
blame for his accident rests squarely with Air America. “It was
only four in the afternoon. I drank coffee, took no-doze and
turned the volume on the radio way up and I still passed out!”
“This is no different than warning labels on medication,” added
Feely's attorney. “Air America needs to warn their fans that if
they listen to programs like the O'Franken Factor there's a good
chance they could fall asleep. That way they'll know not to
operate heavy machinery.”
“We never promised anyone we’d keep them awake,” said a high
level executive with Air America. “We never once promised that.
We're a liberal talk radio network. We can't make those kinds of
guarantees.”
The executive went on to argue that listeners should be held
responsible for themselves while tuning into the network's
programs.
“Besides,” the executive continued, “if we assumed financial
responsibility for all the car accidents caused by people falling
asleep while listening to our programs on their car radios, we’d go
out of business.”
“They should tell that to the tree I killed,” said Feely when
informed of the network’s official position. “Tell them to tell it to
the tree.”
